Unique record! Mohammed Shami makes IPL history as first bowler to ...

NEW DELHI: Sunrisers Hyderabad‘s veteran fast bowler Mohammed Shami made IPL history on Friday at Chennai’s MA Chidambaram stadium. He became the first bowler to take a wicket on the first ball of an innings four times in IPL history. His latest victim was Chennai Super Kings‘ young opener Shaik Rasheed during their IPL 2025 match.

The historic moment came when Shami delivered a perfect seam-up ball that moved away from the off-stump. Rasheed tried to play a hard punch shot but only managed to edge it to Abhishek Sharma in the slips. This dismissal added to Shami’s impressive list of first-ball wickets, which includes Jacques Kallis (Dubai, 2014), KL Rahul (Wankhede, 2022), and Phil Salt (Ahmedabad, 2023).

The match began with SRH captain Pat Cummins winning the toss and choosing to bowl first at Chepauk.
Who’s that IPL player?
CSK’s young opening pair of Rasheed and Ayush Mhatre created their own piece of history. They became part of an elite group, being only the fourth opening combination in IPL where both batters were under 21 years old.

How do you feel about the trend of younger players making an impact in IPL?

The young CSK duo joined a select list of under-21 opening pairs in IPL history. Previous pairs include the combinations of Sanju Samson-Rishabh Pant, Shubman Gill-Tom Banton, and Abhishek Sharma-Priyam Garg, with the last pair achieving this feat twice.

Huge prediction! KL Rahul would play in place of Rishabh Pant in 2026 T20 World Cup

What makes this opening partnership even more special is their combined age of 38 years and 131 days. This makes Rasheed and Mhatre the second-youngest opening pair in IPL history. They’re only behind the record set by Yashasvi Jaiswal and Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who had a combined age of 37 years and 135 days when they opened for their team against LSG in Jaipur earlier in 2025.

Trump Lists Russia’s Big Ukraine ‘Concession’; Praises Putin For ‘Holding Back’ | Watch

US President Donald Trump has claimed that Crimea, which is a part of Ukraine, would stay with Russia, a move which is seen as a new pressure tactic on Volodymyr Zelenskyy to make concessions to end the war.
“Crimea will stay with Russia,” Trump said in a Time magazine interview published on Friday. “Zelenskyy understands that,” he said, adding, “and everybody understands that it’s been with them for a long time.”
The comments came amid ongoing tensions over Crimea, a strategically important peninsula along the Black Sea that Russia seized in 2014 during President Barack Obama’s administration, years before the full-scale invasion that began in 2022.
“They’ve had their submarines there for long before any period that we’re talking about, for many years. The people speak largely Russian in Crimea,” he said. “But this was given by Obama. This wasn’t given by Trump,” he added.
He accused Zelenskyy of prolonging the war by resisting negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Meanwhile, Trump has also slammed Putin for its continued assault on Ukarine saying, “I am not happy with the Russian strikes on KYIV. Not necessary, and very bad timing. Vladimir, STOP! 5000 soldiers a week are dying. Lets get the Peace Deal DONE!”
During recent peace discussions, Russia struck the city of Sumy, killing over 30 civilians celebrating Palm Sunday, launched drone attacks on Odesa, and bombarded Zaporizhzhia with powerful glide bombs.
Western European leaders have accused Putin of stalling negotiations and attempting to seize more Ukrainian territory while his military maintains momentum on the battlefield. On Thursday, Zelenskyy pointed out that Ukraine had accepted a US ceasefire proposal 44 days ago as the first step toward peace talks, but Russian attacks have continued.

'This is not how you treat freedom fighters': SC pulls up Rahul Gandhi over remarks on Veer Savarkar

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Friday stayed the Allahabad high court order refusing to quash summons to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in connection with the defamation case concerning his remarks about Veer Savarkar.
During the hearing, the apex court issued a stern reminder to the leader of opposition stating that Savarkar is revered in Maharashtra and warned of consequences for making disparaging remarks about freedom fighters.
The court, notably, referenced historical context, pointing out that Rahul Gandhi’s grandmother, former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, had written a letter praising Savarkar.
“Does your client know that his grandmother, when she was the Prime Minister, also sent a letter to the praising the gentleman. So, let’s not make irresponsible statements about freedom fighters,” the Supreme Court asked senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, appearing for Rahul.
“This is not how you treat freedom fighters when you don’t know anything about the history and geography of the country,” the apex court said.
The court also drew a parallel to Mahatma Gandhi’s correspondence during the British era, where he used the phrase “your faithful servant.”
The case stems from Gandhi’s controversial statements about Savarkar during a Bharat Jodo Yatra rally in Maharashtra’s Akola district on November 17, 2022.
Advocate Nripendra Pandey subsequently filed a defamation complaint, contending that Gandhi’s remarks were deliberately intended to defame Savarkar.

Virat Kohli breaks tie with Chris Gayle on T20 world record; extends love affair with Chinnaswamy Stadium

Virat Kohli achieved a new milestone by breaking the world record for most half-centuries at a single venue in T20 cricket, scoring his 26th fifty at Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Thursday (April 24). His 42-ball 70 helped Royal Challengers Bengaluru secure their first home victory of the IPL season against Rajasthan Royals.
Kohli surpassed England’s Alex Hales, who previously held the record with 25 fifties at Trent Bridge in Nottingham. The stellar performance also established Kohli’s dominance in all batting parameters – average, fifties, centuries, and runs – in T20 format at a single venue.

The record for most fifties at one venue in T20 cricket now stands with Kohli at 26, followed by Hales at 25, James Vince with 24 at The Rose Bowl, Tamim Iqbal with 23 at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium, and Jason Roy with 21 at The Oval.
The RCB stalwart praised the venue and the fans. “This venue is the best place to play cricket in the IPL, and the fans backed us during good and bad times. It is a special place and has a lot of special memories.”
Most fifties at one venue in T20 cricket

  • 26 – Virat Kohli at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru
  • 25 – Alex Hales at Trent Bridge, Nottingham
  • 24 – James Vince at The Rose Bowl, Southampton
  • 23 – Tamim Iqbal at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur, Dhaka
  • 21 – Jason Roy at The Oval, London

In another significant achievement, Kohli overtook Chris Gayle in the total number of fifty-plus scores in T20 cricket. With 102 fifties and nine hundreds, Kohli’s tally of 111 fifty-plus scores now ranks second only to David Warner’s 117.
During the match, Kohli maintained an impressive strike rate of 166 before his dismissal at 70. His partnership with Devdutt Padikkal produced a crucial 95-run stand, with both batsmen accelerating between overs 11-15.

The rise and rise of India, Royal Challengers Bengaluru star Virat Kohli

The victory was particularly significant for RCB as it marked their first home win of the season, taking their total to 12 points with five games remaining in their campaign.
For Rajasthan Royals, the defeat marked their seventh loss of the season, putting them in a challenging position requiring more than just two points from each of their remaining five matches to stay competitive in the tournament.
Kohli expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance, particularly their revised batting approach. “Pretty happy, we discussed a few things as a batting unit and applied ourselves well enough to get a total on the board. The first challenge here is to win toss and second half it becomes a bit of a advantage, we have been fighting hard to get a good score in the first few games, but the template today was for one guy to bat through and the rest of the batters can go attacking and today it really paid off,” Kohli said.
Kohli further elaborated on the team’s batting strategy. “There is pace and bounce in the first 3-4 overs, and I think we tried to force too many shots in the last 3 games, and today we let the ball come and adjusted ourselves, and we were able to capitalise on those. We figured out a way to bat now, and in the next few home games, we should be in a better position to get those extra 15-20 runs.”
Most 50-plus Scores in T20s

  • 111 – Virat Kohli*
  • 110 – Chris Gayle

Virat Kohli jumps to second in Orange Cap race

B Sai Sudharsan of the Gujarat Titans continues to lead the run charts with 417 runs in eight matches, boasting an average of 52.12 and a strike rate of 152.18. Following closely is Kohli, who has risen to second place after scoring his second consecutive half-century, making 70 runs off 42 balls. He has accumulated a total of 392 runs in nine innings.
Nicholas Pooran of the Lucknow Super Giants, who started the IPL strongly and was the top run-scorer from Game 7 to Game 39, has slipped to third place with 377 runs from nine innings due to a rough patch.
In fourth place is Suryakumar Yadav from the Mumbai Indians, who has shown impressive consistency this season with 373 runs. Although he hasn’t had any major standout performances, he has recorded scores of 29, 48, 27*, 67, 28, 40, 26, 68*, and 40* without any significant failures.
Just behind Suryakumar are Jos Buttler of GT and Yashasvi Jaiswal, each with 356 runs. However, Buttler has played one fewer innings than Jaiswal, who had a slow start to the season but has bounced back with scores of 75, 51, 74, and 49 in his last four innings.

ED detains BluSmart's Puneet Jaggi

NEW DELHI: Ahead of formally launching a money-laundering investigation, the Enforcement Directorate Thursday detained Puneet Jaggi, one of the promoters of Gensol Engineering, which operated BluSmart cab services, to question him on alleged Foreign Exchange Management Act violations. The probe is to ascertain if Gensol diverted funds for acquiring foreign exchange.
While Puneet was picked up from a hotel in Delhi during searches conducted by the agency at multiple places in Delhi, Gurgaon and Ahmedabad, his brother and co-promoter Anmol Jaggi is believed to be out of the country and will soon be summoned for questioning.
Jaggi brothers earlier barred from operating in share market
The Jaggi brothers were earlier barred from operating in the share market after regulator Sebi found the promoters had diverted company funds for personal gains, including buying property in Gurgaon worth over Rs 45 crore for personal use.
ED is awaiting an FIR, likely to be registered against the Jaggi brothers and their company, to formally register a probe under PMLA, sources said. When reached for comment on Thursday evening, Gensol said their offices were closed for the day.

PATNA/NEW DELHI: Speaking against the backdrop of support from important world leaders, including US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, PM Modi, while vowing retribution for the Pahalgam attack, also appeared confident of the support of the international community for his plan of action. “Everyone who believes in humanity is with us. I thank the people of various countries and their leaders who have stood with us in these times,” Modi said.
Modi said the entire country was distressed, and crores of countrymen were saddened by the brutality with which terrorists killed innocent tourists.

He also referred to the linguistic diversity of the country, as he said, “Some of them spoke Bengali, some spoke Kannada, some were Marathi, some were Odia, some were Gujarati, some were sons of Bihar. Today, from Kargil to Kanyakumari, our grief is the same on the death of all of them; our anger is the same.”
The PM concluded by saying that peace and security were the most important conditions for rapid development. “Developed Bihar is necessary for a developed India. It is the endeavour of all of us that there should be development in Bihar, and the benefits of development should reach every section and every region. I once again thank all of you for joining this programme on Panchayati Raj Day,” he added.

'For the last 78 years ... ': Sunil Gavaskar's emotional outburst on Live TV over Pahalgam terror attack
Sunil Gavaskar (Image credit: X)

NEW DELHI: India cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar strongly condemned the masterminds behind the deadly Pahalgam terror attack during a live broadcast ahead of the IPL 2025 clash between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Rajasthan Royals at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Known for his candid commentary, Gavaskar appeared visibly upset while speaking on air about the tragic incident.
“I send my condolences to all the families who have lost their loved and dear ones. It has effected all of us Indians….I just wanna ask a question to all the perpetrators, and all those who backed them (the terrorists), their handlers – What has all this fighting achieved?” Gavaskar said on Star Sports.
“For the last 78 years, not one millimetre of land has exchanged hands, is it? So for the next 78,000 years, nothing is going change. So why don’t we live in peace instead, and make our country strong? So that is my appeal,” he added.

Exclusive- Gulki Joshi reacts to being approached for Khatron Ke Khiladi: I hope that things work out, but...

Gulki Joshi has been quite keen on participating in the upcoming season of Khatron Ke Khiladi, the actress exclusively shared that she had been approached for the show recently, however, didn’t receive any further confirmation after that, neither did the conversation continue towards her joining to show.
Gulki said, “Yes, I was very keen and I was only approached once for it just to ask me whether I was interested or not. After that, no other conversation happened but I have been seeing only news, so I was confused that is it real or a rumour, whether I was doing the show or not. As I had just one conversation with them and there hasn’t been any update.”
She further shared, “I hope that things work out, but now I have been hearing that the show has been cancelled for this year. I just hope that’s not true. Maybe that is the reason that they haven’t reverted back due to these issues. I really hope it doesn’t get scrapped and I really forward to do it. I have been eagerly waiting for it, that is why I didn’t confirm or react to it earlier.”

Gulki had exclusively shared her excitement about doing Khatron, “I would love to do Khatron Ke Khiladi. The whole team is there and I keep seeing their posts and they are having so much fun.

Maybe next season, I would love to participate. I like those balancing stunts at the heights. I am a paraglider so I would love to do those stunts. I am not that keen on doing the stunts with insects but karne pe aaya toh kar dungi, I am very competitive that way.But I really love the air-lifting and balancing ones. I completely forgot about water-stunts. When it comes to Khatron I think I like all the stunts except the insects ones. If I participate in the show, I would be the only overexcited baby over there.”
